This series began with Polo Ralph Lauren officially designing the uniform for the American team that competed in the "America's Cup," a sailing (regatta) competition held in San Diego in 1992. The uniform featured the "CP RL-93" logo.

The current uniform quickly gained a passionate fan base. The following year, they released the sporty "the Polo CP-93 collections" based on the uniform.
